伝統には終わりなく続いていくものがありますが、Blue & White のカレンダーもそのうちの一つです。Blue & White はもう40年ものあいだ、毎年、新しい独自のカレンダーを作り続けてきましたが、もう来年のテーマを考えています。2017年のカレンダーのテーマは「模様」です。Blue & White がいつまでも残したいと思っている、新しい、そして古い織物の模様、そして日本の織物の語彙・伝統の連続についてです。

日本は模様を通じて世界を捉え、Blue & White もまたその模様が大好きです。
この2017年のカレンダーでは、月毎に私達のお気に入りを紹介していきます。
内幾つかは今日のBlue & White で見受けられ、その他は私エイミーが1975年のBlue & White 開店以来！集め続けているアンティークの藍染めのものです。
模様の形は中国、韓国、さらにはペルシャやその他シルクロード、デザインの道、模様の道が続く各地の場所が起源ですが、日本人はそれらをひねり、つまり、混ぜあわせ、気持の良いシンプルな模様と美の基礎を作り出しました。
自然と日常生活の中の典型的な純粋さは日本の観点の芯であり、それは日本特有の美学と独自性が生み出される様々な場面において見られます。

Some traditions go on without end. Our Blue & White calendar is one. We have been creating fresh and original designs every year for nearly 40 years and are already thinking of next year’s theme. The new 2017 calendar is all about patterns. Patterns of Textiles old and new, and the continuum of the Japan textile lexicon/ tradition that Blue & White hopes to perpetuate.

Japan sees the world in patterns and Blue & White loves patterns. In 2017 we share some of our favorites. Some are in Blue & White today, others are from a collection of antique indigo textiles Amy has been compiling since starting Blue & White in 1975.
The quintessential distillation of nature and everyday life that are at the core of Japanese vision are what makes Japanese aesthetics distinctive and original though in many cases the forms originated elsewhere: China, Korea and even Persia and other spot along the silk road / the design road / the pattern road. But Japanese twist and tweak have produced patterns of simplicity, and essential beauty. May they inspire and enlighten your life in 2017.
